Ireland’s Jason Smyth won his sixth Paralympic gold medal after edging the T13 100m final on Sunday morning.
Algeria’s Skander Djamil Athmani was the fastest qualifier, and pushed Smyth all the way in the final but the Derry native won on a photo finish. Earlier on Sunday morning he won the second heat with a time of 10.74.
Smyth ran a season’s best 10.53 in the final. The 34-year-old is a phenomenon by any yardstick, 21 gold medals now at major championships over a 15-year sprinting career.
