Over €1.46 million in government funding has been given to 11 arts and culture organisations to allow them to upgrade and develop their facilities.
This new scheme will prioritise projects that reduce the carbon footprint of arts organisations.
Projects that increase art centre’s capacity for artists and artistic productions will also be favoured.
Facilities which will receive the funding include arts centres, theatres, galleries, museums, artists’ studios and creative spaces.
Two artistic spaces in Donegal are set to receive funding. The Abbey Arts and Cultural Centre in Ballyshannon will receive €88,000. An Grianán Theatre Management Company in Letterkenny will receive €290,299.
The Alfred Beit Foundation in Dublin will receive €80,000. This foundation runs Russborough house in Wicklow, which was built in the mid-1700s and displays artwork belonging to the Beit Collection.
Axis, an arts and community resource centre based in Ballymun in Dublin, will receive €73,959.
The Garter Lane Arts Centre in Waterford will receive €196,857.
Two arts centres in Louth will also receive funding. Droichead Arts Centre in Drogheda and An Táin Arts Centre in Dundalk will receive €70,000 and €72,929 respectively.
Galway city council, the Firkin Crane dance space in Cork city, the Royal Hibernian Academy in Dublin and Kilkenny’s Watergate Theatre Company will also receive grants.
The funding is provided under Stream B of the Cultural Capital Scheme 2019-2022, which is part of Project Ireland 2040.
“This capital scheme prioritises projects that reduce an organisation’s carbon footprint,” said Catherine Martin, the Minister for Tourism, Culture and the Arts.
“This is in line with the Government’s action on climate change and I’m delighted that the funding for some of these projects will make a real and positive impact on the environment.”
