PM has thrown a ‘hand grenade’ into vaccine rollout AMA President

Australian Medical Association President Dr Omar Khorshid says Prime Minister Scott Morrison has thrown a “hand grenade” into the vaccine rollout with his announcement that under-40s can ask their GP for the AstraZeneca vaccine.

The announcement has caused widespread confusion with several state premiers today contradicting Mr Morrison’s advice for younger Australians to receive the Oxford-produced jab.

“The Prime Minister has thrown a little bit of a hand grenade into our vaccine program," Dr Khorshid said.

“Today shows why we need to keep the politicians out of health discussions, and leave them between patients and their doctors.

“The AMA is clear that the ATAGI advice needs to be taken into account by everybody. The advice is clear, but it is just advice.

“And that is that anyone under the age of 60 is preferred to have Pfizer.”
