‘No doubt’ there is a lack of vaccine supply AMA President

AMA President Dr Omar Khorshid says Australia has been trying to focus its vaccination program on the AstraZeneca vaccine because there is “no doubt” there is a lack of supply from overseas.

“We can make that here in Australia and we’re not reliant on factories overseas and being allowed to import the vaccine,” he said.

Dr Khorshid told Sky News it may be a “long wait” for those who are planning to receive the Pfizer vaccine but he believes it is still possible for the program to be completed by the end of the year.

“We are expecting very large amounts of the Pfizer vaccine, maybe even we’ll get significant amounts of Moderna, a little bit less certainly some Novavax as well,” he said.

“But even if we just get the Pfizer, if it comes as promised, that will be enough for every Australian to have two doses of their vaccine by the end of the year as long as we keep the program rolling now”.
