Community pharmacies the ‘next obvious step’ in vaccine rollout Clennell

Sky News Political Editor Andrew Clennell says he thinks the federal government will allow community pharmacies to administer COVID-19 vaccines in about a month.

Pharmacy Guild of Australia President Trent Twomey on Monday said the vaccine rollout should be “decentralised” with the help of community pharmacies.

According to Mr Clennell, this idea “makes a fair bit of sense”.

“What a difference it would make; it really comes down to this push by the AMA (Australian Medical Association) and the Health Secretary Brendan Murphy at the start of the year that it had to be done through GPs,” he said.

“I really think the pharmacists is the next obvious step, the quicker the government gets onto that the better, and that’s certainly the view of Trent Twomey.”
