Trinidad and Tobago netballer Samantha Wallace led New South Wales Swifts to a 69-66 win over Queensland Firebirds in the Suncorp Super Netball in Australia on Sunday.
Wallace had a perfect night, shooting 49 from 49.
Swifts needed extra time to beat Firebirds. Swifts led 18-13 after the first period and 35-30 at the half. But the Firebirds made a strong reply in the second half to tie the scores at 64 after the fourth period.
NSW then outscored Queensland 5-2 in the extra time to wrap up the win.
They next play West Coast Fever on Saturday.
Additionally, TT goal attack/goal shoot Kalifa McCollin scored just three goals in a losing effort for Collingwood Magpies against Sunshine Coast Lightning on the opening day of the Suncorp Super Netball on Saturday.
McCollin scored a “supershot,” where two goals are counted instead of one, at the ending of the second period to cut the deficit to 30-33.
Sunshine Coast continued to lead the game on the opening day of the 2021 season, to win 67-56.
Magpies next play Giants, who won their opening fixture.
