The Trinidad and Tobago Prison Service has joined in aid and relief efforts to St Vincent and the Grenadines, specifically the prison, after the eruptions of the La Soufriere volcano.
A release from the prison service said through collaboration with Caribbean Community Implementation Agency for Crime and Security (Caricom Impacs), contact was made and its immediate needs were established.
On Wednesday, 800 cases of water and 840 KN95 masks, supplied by the Prison Service, were loaded onto the Admiral Vessel, bound for SVG.
Supt Timothy Hazelwood of the SVG prison contacted TT's acting Commissioner of Prisons Dennis Pulchan to express his gratitude for the supplies, which he said would go a long way.
Pulchan promised to continue to monitor developments and said he remains committed to helping where he can.
The TT Prison Service thanked Calixtus Joseph of Caricom IMPACS for his commitment and "unwavering assistance" in ensuring that all logistics were in place for delivery.
"We continue to keep the our Caribbean neighbours in our thoughts amidst this uncertain and disastrous time," the release said.
