The Korean government will donate US$100,000 to St Vincent and the Grenadines to assist with recovery and relief efforts owing to the eruption of the La Soufriere volcano.
The volcano first erupted two weeks ago and explosive eruptions continued up to Thursday.
Over 16,000 residents from the northern part of St Vincent – the red zone – have since evacuated. Some are staying at the homes of family or friends in the green zone while others are at designated shelters or hotels.
Ash fall and pyroclastic flows have caused damage to many buildings and watercourses in the country.
In a press release, the Korean government said the money will be donated through the Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency for “the prompt relief and recovery efforts.
“The Korean government stands in solidarity with the government and the people of StVG during this difficult time and hopes that its assistance will help bring rapid relief to the people of SVG.”
