Telecommunications company Digicel has donated $2 million in relief items to St Vincent and the Grenadines.
In a statement, the company said it had mobilised its teams and suppliers and chartered a vessel, within three days of receiving the request, to send help to the country, which has been devastated by ongoing eruptions of the La Soufriere volcano.
It said the shipment, which left Trinidad on April 15, included emergency supplies, food, water, toiletries, and home, health, and medical supplies.
CEO of Digicel Abraham Smith said, “We are truly heartened by the outpouring of love from our employees, along with the support from our customers and suppliers as we do our part to help our neighbours in SVG.”
The statement said the shipment, which is part of the US$500,000 donation from the Digicel group, arrived in St Vincent on Friday and was received by CEO of Digicel SVG Fanta Williams.
