Doctor tells court George Floyd died due to low levels of oxygen

about 3 years in news

A medical expert has addressed the court during the murder trial of former officer Derek Chauvin saying George Floyd died from low levels of oxygen caused by shallow breathing.

Chauvin pressed his knee on the 46-year old’s neck for more than nine minutes during his arrest last year and is facing murder and manslaughter changers over the fatal encounter.

Respiratory physician Dr Martin Tobin told the court the force prevented Mr Floyd from being able to use part of his body, saying it was a bit like a surgeon had gone in and removed a lung.

The cause of death has become central to the case with the defence blaming drug use and underlying health problems.
