New Zealand has maintained the right to continue, pause or suspend flights from an Australian state or territory if there is a coronavirus outbreak of concern.

International travel returns in less than two weeks with Australians able to fly to New Zealand quarantine-free from April 19.

Tourism and airline operators have seen an immediate surge in bookings however New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern noted emerging virus clusters could see the travel bubble paused.

Travellers won’t be required to have received a vaccine but must wear a mask and have no flu-like symptoms before their flight.

Qantas and Jetstar plan to quickly start 122 weekly flights across the Tasman while Virgin will not begin flights until September.
