UNC beyond ressurection

THE EDITOR: If the decision to fire 12 workers from the UNC-controlled Sangre Grande Regional Corporation was not tragic, it is certainly humorous.
Here we have the corporation’s UNC chairman, Anil Juteram, who has clearly lost the confidence and support of his fellow councillors, lamenting that the decision was heartless while stressing that UNC political leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar did not sanction the actions.
Since when does the political leader of a party have to sanction any decisions of a regional corporation? Does Juteram feel that he will be absolved of weak leadership by invoking the name of Persad-Bissessar? Perhaps other UNC operatives are indoctrinated to believe that the mere mention of her revered name is a problem-solver.
The chairman, perhaps inadvertently, admitted that the UNC, at all levels, is controlled by its all-powerful leader and no decisions can be made without her consent and direction.
One can clearly see the leader’s influence at the parliamentary level where members seem to be clueless about decisions and directions of debates.
Big men and women have surrendered their pride and dignity to be in the good graces of their leader and like lambs they are being led to political slaughter.
The UNC, under the leadership of Persad-Bissessar, is beyond resurrection.
