Sky News Political Editor Andrew Clennell says the Coalition would certainly lose its majority if an election was held today following the latest Newspoll numbers.
The Coalition suffered one of its worst results since it was elected in 2019 with the latest Australian Newspoll revealing the sexual assault allegations and delayed vaccine rollout is taking a toll on the incumbent government.
Prime Minister Scott Morrison's popular support has dropped to 56 percent, down five points on the previous poll while Opposition Leader Anthony Albanese’s result for preferred prime minister gained four points and rose to 30 per cent.
The two-party-preferred split has changed from a 50-50 contest to Labor leading 52 to 48 percent and the Coalition has fallen three points to 39 per cent in the primary vote while Labor has risen by two points to 39 per cent.
