Foul play has been ruled out in the death of a 59-year-old man found on Nanaimo’s Fitzwilliam Street.

The body of the man, identified by friends as Leonard Williams, was located Boxing Day. Nanaimo RCMP said a forensic autopsy was completed Dec. 31.

Williams was described by Tanya Hiltz of the Wisteria Community Association as “a real sweetheart.” He spent many years living on the street and was known as Little Leonard.

Police followed up on reports of loud noises about 11 p.m. on Christmas in the area where the body was found, and say they are confident they are not connected to the death.
