WEST Indies opener Evin Lewis and former Windies pacer Ravi Rampaul both displayed creditable performances to propel the Imran Khan XI to a comfortable nine-wicket win over Denesh Ramdin XI in the TT Red Force first practice match ahead of the Cricket West Indies Regional Super50 tournament.
The Super50 tournament will be played from February 4 to 27 in Antigua and Barbuda.
On Wednesday, batting first at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy in Tarouba the Ramdin XI could only muster 174 all out in 45.4 overs.
The uncle and nephew pair of Lendl and Keagan Simmons could not post a huge opening partnership as the latter fell for only five.
Isaiah Rajah and Lendl started to build a solid platform for the Ramdin XI, but with the score on 42 Lendl was dismissed for 17.
Nicholas Alexis fell cheaply for two as Shaaron Lewis grabbed his wicket .
Rajah was the rock at the top of the order and he found an able partner in Yannic Cariah as the pair put on 57 for the fourth-wicket.
Cariah was sent back to the pavilion by medium pacer Tion Webster for 27 off 41 deliveries to leave the score 108/4 in the 28th over.
Wickets then started to fall regularly as the Ramdin XI lost its remaining six wickets for 66 runs. Rampaul snatched the last three wickets to end with figures of 4/27 in 7.4 overs. Leg spinner Khan was also among the wickets as he picked up 2/26 in seven overs.
Rajah stood tall as he struck 61 off 92 balls with six fours and Amir Jangoo ended unbeaten on 21.
In reply, Lewis punished the Ramdin XI bowlers with fast bowlers Jarlarnie Seales and Daniel St Clair on the receiving end of some hefty blows.
Jeremy Solozano provided ample support to Lewis as the left-handed pair put on 126 inside 17 overs. The Ramdin XI bowlers would have been relieved when Lewis retired on 80 not out, but the Khan XI were already on course for victory.
Webster lashed 21 off 18 balls before being bowled by Rajah. Solozano and the experienced Jason Mohammed (six not out) steered the Khan XI to 175/1 in 28 overs to seal a crushing win.
Solozano struck 58 not out off 97 balls which included four fours and one six.
The Red Force will play another practice match at the National Cricket Centre in Couva at 9.30 am, on Friday.
