West Shore RCMP continue to investigate a massive theft and fraud operation they believe is connected to more than 25 unsolved cases in the past two years.
The investigation started Sept. 18 with a report that a fraudulent bank draft was used to buy a used vehicle from a Colwood dealership. Officers found similar purchases for four other vehicles at other dealerships.
In October, police executed a search warrant at a Langford home and found evidence of identity and bank fraud.
A man and a woman, both 30, were arrested for possession of stolen property and fraud-related offences.
Officers have been going through the evidence and have connected the operation to dozens of unsolved cases.
One dates to November 2019, when identification was stolen from a parked vehicle and allegedly used to access the victim’s bank accounts. More than $6,000 was fraudulently accessed over a period of two months, and an attempt was made to secure a loan for thousands more.
Pictures of a suspect from surveillance videos have been released. He is described as white and in his 30s, and was wearing a Nike windbreaker and a blue and white tuque.
Police ask anyone who can identify the man to call West Shore RCMP at 250-474-2264 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
