A team of eight were appointed as the new board of commissioners of the Water and Sewerage Authority (WASA) on Thursday, a media release from the Ministry of Public Utilities reported on Friday.
The release said the team consisted of experts from various fields with a mandate to transform WASA into a more efficient, transparent body.
At the head of the new board is Dr Lennox Sealy, a consultant with experience in organisational transformation and development.
The commissioners include deputy chairman attorney Ravindra Nanga, geologist Ramnarine Clive Dookie, engineers Danford Mapp and Acherson Wells, with deputy permanent secretary Beverly Khan, chief financial officer Carol Austin and accounging expert Joel Edwards.
The commissioners met with Public Utilities Minister Marvin Gonzales at his office in St Clair, where he called on them to focus their efforts on managing water distribution and the local wastewater sector.
He also noted several areas in need of WASA's attention, citing the lack of a constant, regular water supply in some areas.
The main focus of the board will be to transform WASA by building public confidence in operations of the water sector, improving operational efficiency and the quality of customer service, while focusing on restructuring the water and wastewater sector.
