The World Food Programme (WFP) Africa has shared aerial footage of Um Rakuba camp in Gedaref, Sudan, which is hosting about 9,000 Ethiopian refugees from the Tigray region, the WFP told Storyful. On Sunday, November 29, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees said that more than 43,000 refugees had crossed into Sudan from Ethiopia’s Tigray region since fighting started in early November. Michael Dunford, the WFP Regional Director for Eastern Africa, visited the area on Sunday and said the camp’s warehouse has “enough food for 60,000 people for the next month.” Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed announced on November 28 that state forces had captured Mekelle and “ceased the military operations in the Tigray region.” Credit: WFP Africa via Storyful
