Woodstock marks Remembrance Day with modified ceremony

almost 5 years in woodstocksentinelreview

Woodstock paid respects Wednesday at a modified Remembrance Day ceremony held at Goff Hall. Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the city this year opted to hold a small indoor ceremony with limited attendance. Legion members, veterans and elected officials were among those present for the ceremony and wreath laying. Attendees were seated with social distancing and asked not to sing for the national anthem and instructed to wear a mask throughout the ceremony, which lasted about an hour. While much was different this year because of the COVID-19 pandemic, bugler David Ellery gave the Last Post, Ron Findlater was the master of ceremonies, and Padres Ernie Newton and Don Moore gave prayers, a dedication to the Unknown Soldier and the Benediction.
Following the ceremony the Woodstock Legion held its traditional lunch, and residents – both those that attended the ceremony at the general public – pinned their poppies on wreathes laid at the downtown Woodstock cenotaph. The Goff Hall ceremony was shown live on Rogers TV, and was rebroadcast throughout the day. Photos by Kathleen Saylors, Woodstock Sentinel-Review.
