A pair accused of brandishing a knife in a store when confronted for allegedly trying to pocket items was arrested Sunday.

Officers were called to a store in Quadra Village, between Hillside Avenue and Bay Street, about 8:30 p.m. Sunday after staff reported that a man and a woman were taking items from shelves and stashing them in their coats.

When staff confronted them, the woman brandished a knife. Staff backed away, and the couple fled the store. No one was injured.

Police looked at the store’s video surveillance and began looking for the pair.

A canine officer and police dog Zender found a male suspect a short distance away. He was arrested and as police searched him, they found he was carrying several knives.

A woman was located a short time later. Victoria police said she refused to comply with directions and put up a fight while being arrested. Police seized a knife she was carrying.

The man and woman were taken to police cells where they were held for court Monday morning
