New COVID-19 exposures have been reported at a Nanaimo school and on three flights into Victoria.
A notice posted on the Island Health website says there was an exposure at Dover Bay Secondary, 6135 McGirr Rd., on Nov. 2 and Nov. 5, when someone with a lab-confirmed COVID-19 infection attended the school.
In a message posted online, superintendent Scott Saywell says it is the Nanaimo-Ladysmith district’s first COVID-19 exposure.
“For many I am sure this news does not come as a surprise considering the increasing numbers of cases across the province. And for some of you, this may also cause some anxiety.”
Saywell said the district has “comprehensive” health and safety measures, and a custodial crew was at the school over the weekend to do extra cleaning.
“We are fortunate to be living on Vancouver Island where our COVID numbers are extremely low,” he said. “This event is a reminder that we must continue to be diligent as we navigate this pandemic together.”
Meanwhile, the B.C. Centre for Disease Control added three new Victoria flights to its list COVID-19 exposures.
According to the centre, Air Canada Jazz flight 8069 and Air Canada flight 8075, both out of Vancouver on Nov. 2, each carried a passenger with a confirmed case of COVID-19.
The centre says rows seven to 13 on flight 8069 and rows 11 through 17 on flight 8075 were affected.
WestJet flight 227, which arrived in Victoria from Calgary on Oct. 30, was also carrying a confirmed case. Rows four through 10 of that flight may have been affected.
Passengers in the affected rows are asked to self-monitor for symptoms for 14 days.
