Incumbent GOP Senator Susan Collins of Maine defeated her Democratic rival Sara Gideon in US elections held November 3. Gideon conceded defeat on Wednesday afternoon, November 4. The race was the most expensive political campaign in Maine history, according to the AP. “Just now I spoke with Senator Collins – I congratulated her on winning this election and I told her that I will always be available to help serve the people of Maine,” Gideon said. Gideon said she was proud of the campaign. “Let’s get some rest, let’s reflect on the work we’ve done over the past 16 months, and, then, let’s get back to work,” Gideon said.
