The difference in doing politics between the Greens and the NDP is well exemplified in the ways the search for a seat in the House of Commons by a new Party Leader was treated by the two rivals at the progressive end of the spectrum. Elizabeth May announced that Greens had decided not to run against Jagmeet Singh when he was trying to find a seat in the House of Commons in Burnaby South, as it was preferable that all party leaders be able to find a place in the House.
In contrast, Singh just said the NDP will contest Toronto Centre where new Green Leader, Annamie Paul, is running in a by-election in her own community. No grace, civility, or reciprocity in this winner take all ruthlessness typical of the traditional parties. It does not foster reasoned discussion, mutual learning, and better policy outcomes.
