Crowds were seen gathering at Piccadilly Circus late on October 10 as pubs across London closed at 10pm under the measures aimed to curb the spread of coronavirus. All pubs, bars, restaurants and hospitality venues in England must close at 10pm under the rules in place since late September, prompting crowds to spill onto the street at closing time. Elsewhere in London on the same evening, people were seen enjoying a game of cricket on the streets of Peckham after the pubs closed. The government has been accused of not thinking through the impact of the curfew. The opposition leader, Labour’s Keir Starmer said the curfew wasn’t working as anticipated in a BBC interview on October 9, but said his party would not vote against the government to end the restrictions.
