A washed-out roadway was closed after “massive” rainfall from storm Sally inundated Washington County, Georgia, on Thursday, September 17, traffic officials said. The Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) said this footage shows water rushing through a damaged portion of Highway 24 between the cities Tanner and Davisboro. Sally made landfall in Alabama as a Category 2 hurricane in the early hours of Wednesday morning. The storm has downed trees, flooded roads, and cut power for communities across the South, including in Alabama, Florida, and Georgia. As of Thursday morning, the storm had weakened to a post-tropical cyclone and was bringing “torrential” rainfall to the Carolinas, the National Hurricane Center said.
