Thousands rallied in front of the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, DC, on August 28, calling for criminal justice reform on the 57th anniversary of Rev Martin Luther King Jr’s “I Have a Dream” speech. Footage of the gathering shows a large crowd of protesters stretching from the Lincoln Memorial to the Washington Monument. Several speakers addressed the crowd about racial injustice, including King’s eldest son, Martin Luther King III, who emphasized the need to vote. “I think that if people in large numbers come out and elect a new president and new members to the United States Senate, yes there will be progress,” King said. “If people’s votes are suppressed and for whatever reason do not come out, it’s going to be very difficult under the Trump administration to galvanize the kind of progress that we need to see.” Letetra Widman, Jacob Blake’s sister, also addressed the crowd, according to reports.
