Los Angeles Clippers’ head coach Doc Rivers and star Paul George shared their thoughts on the police shooting of Jacob Blake and police brutality with media in the “NBA bubble” in Orlando, Florida, on August 25. “If you watch that video – you don’t need to be black to be outraged,” Rivers told media. “You need to be American and outraged …. The training has to change in the police force. The unions have to be taken down in the police force. My dad was a cop, I believe in good cops. We’re not trying to defund the police and take all their money away, we’re trying to get them to protect us just like they protect everybody else.” George called the shooting “sad,” and encouraged people to join together and “keep fighting.” “I hate to say it, man. This is America,” George said. “We’ve got to stand by our own. We need our allies to stand with us. This is what’s going on, it’s happening. It’s still happening, even after what happened with George Floyd. It’s in them, it’s within them. There are some coward cops out there. It’s the system.
