Island Health is alerting the public about possible exposures to COVID-19 in a Comox Valley restaurant on Aug. 16.
The alert concerns only people who were at Il Falcone Restaurant, 536-6th Street, in Courtenay between 3 and 9:30 p.m. on Aug. 16.
The health authority posts locations and times of possible exposures only when it can’t reach or idenitify — via contact tracing — all individuals who might have been exposed.
A close contact exposure means face-to-face contact for an extended period of time while a person is infectious.
If you were at Il Falcone Restaurant during the date and times of possible exposure, it does not mean you will develop COVID-19, according to the health authority.
The risk of exposure is believed to be low, Island Health said, “but, out of an abundance of caution, we ask that anyone who may have visited any of the locations listed on the specified dates and times to monitor themselves for symptoms.”
Island Health says there’s no known risk to anyone at the restaurant outside of the specified dates and times. There is no need to self-isolate unless you develop symptoms.
Anyone who develops any symptoms of COVID-19, please seek testing and self-isolate. Common symptoms include:FeverChillsCough or exacerbation of chronic coughShortness of breathSore throatRunny noseLoss of sense of smell or tasteHeadacheFatigueDiarrheaLoss of appetiteNausea and vomitingMuscle aches
If you have been identified as a COVID-19 case or a close contact of one, Island Health’s public health team will contact you directly and provide further instruction.
