WINNIPEG — Manitoba's police watchdog says a police officer was justified when he shot and wounded a 16-year-old boy wielding a machete last year.
A report by the Independent Investigation Unit says Winnipeg police were called to report of an armed robbery at a west end 7-Eleven store in November.
Not long after officers arrived, the teen allegedly walked towards an officer and raised the machete over his head.
Police fired a Taser at the boy, but it had no impact.
The report says the teen advanced on police and an officer fired his gun, hitting the boy five times.
The teen underwent surgery in hospital and was discharged a month later.
