Manhattan’s next district attorney race is officially underway, crowded with candidates vying for votes of New Yorkers. With the recent murders of George Floyd and Breonna Taylor, just two examples among many horrifying episodes of police brutality that have long targeted and devastated Black, indigenous and other communities of color across our nation, New Yorkers’ understanding of how much power their local prosecutors yield is more critical than ever.
