Harmonica Player Performs ‘Amazing Grace’ as Hearse Carrying John Lewis Stops at BLM Mural

almost 4 years in news

A hearse carrying the remains of Rep. John Lewis through Washington on July 27 stopped on the city’s Black Lives Matter mural before continuing on to the US Capitol Building. Lewis, a civil rights activist and Democratic congressman, was the first Black lawmaker to be given the honor of lying in state in the US Capitol rotunda, reports said. A ceremony was held in the rotunda on Monday, including speeches from House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell. Video filmed by Steve Walker shows a harmonica player performing Amazing Grace beside the hearse as it was stopped at the mural. Lewis visited the mural in June in what would be his last public appearance before his death on July 17, reports said. Credit: Steve Walker via Storyful
