Palaszczuk warning on coalmine

about 4 years in theaustralian

If Annastacia Palaszczuk does not want another Adani on her hands she should listen to Queensland Labor senator Anthony Chisholm, who says that she should approve New Hope’s Acland mine expansion (“Labor hardhead urges Premier to approve coalmine”, 13/7). The mine supplies coal to Queensland’s largest power station and supplier of electricity to southeast Queensland. It is vital the mine is expanded because it is fast running out of coal reserves. Due to a 13-year long legal campaign by green activists to stop the expansion, 150 coal workers have been retrenched. Tellingly, the Queensland Court of Appeal ruled in favour of the expansion, but Palaszczuk is refusing to make a decision until an appeal by green activists is heard by the High Court.
