There was little comfort to be had in Peter Baldwin’s article “The race to tear down reason” (11-12/7). The West faces a perfect storm as it tries to manage the COVID-19 pandemic while dealing with tectonic cultural shifts within created by those who only recognise history when it’s validated by social media. Maverick states such as China, Russia and Iran watch closely as the West sinks into entropy, contributing to the chaos where they can.
