Sky News host Paul Murray says Opposition Leader Anthony Albanese is "desperately" trying to motivate Eden-Monaro residents to vote in a Labor candidate who ultimately will lack political resources to help the region.

Speaking of the upcoming by-election, Mr Albanese said “this Saturday is a chance to send a message to this government … send a message that ABC cuts should be reversed and that funding should be restored”.

Technically this means he is pushing people to vote for a “protest candidate,” Mr Murray said.

However, Mr Murray pointed out voters should want to vote in a candidate who is a part of the government in power and is able to help your area through working with the government over the next two-years until the next election.

“You are not voting to send a message, you are voting to send a person to parliament to represent your area," Mr Murray said.
