Investors continued to bet on the economic reopening and central bank support, despite a surge in new COVID-19 cases in the US South and Southwest. White House economic adviser Larry Kudlow told CNBC that there was no second wave of the pandemic. Technology shares led gains with Adobe (+2.5%), Amazon.com (+1.5%), Microsoft (+2.8%) and Square (+6.4%) all hitting record highs. Apple (+2.6%) shares rose after announcing plans to make chips for its Mac computers. Gap (+8.3%) was boosted by an upgrade by Wells Fargo. The Dow Jones index closed higher by 153 points or 0.6%. The S&P500 index rose by 0.7%. The Nasdaq index was up by 110 points or 1.1% to a record closing high.
