Victoria police are asking for the public’s help in identifying a suspect in a random, unprovoked assault on Saturday morning.

Officers were called to the 2900-block of Douglas Street about 11 a.m. after a man knocked a 29-year-old woman down to the ground while the two passed each other on the sidewalk.

Police said the woman suffered non-life-threatening injuries, and the suspect left the area.

The suspect is described as a 20- to 30-year-old Hispanic or South Asian man, about five-foot-eight with a medium build. He has short dark hair and was wearing a dark jacket, dark shorts and a grey shirt.

Anyone who sees the suspect is asked to call 911. Anyone with information on his whereabouts can call VicPD’s non-emergency line at 250-995-7654 or call Greater Victoria Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) to remain anonymous.
