‘Great repository of wisdom’ thrown out with classic movies deemed ‘racist’

The cultural censorship of iconic movies and TV shows deemed racist by the politically correct Left fail to account for what is “terrific” about quality screen content which has stood the test of time, according to Australian Playwright David Williamson.

A much-loved episode of the British comedy show ‘Fawlty Towers’ has become the latest victim of cultural censorship, following the removal of classic movies such as ‘Gone With The Wind,’ ‘Come Fly With Me’ and TV comedy ‘Little Britain’.

Numerous movies and TV shows have been banned from streaming services in the wake of the Black Lives Matter protests and riots.

Mr Williamson said, “if we throw out something that was written 400 years ago because some of the attitudes have now dated, we also throw out a great repository of wisdom about universal human nature that is still relevant today”.

He said he could “understand” why African-American people might not feel “enchanted” by the “depictions" of black people in movies.

“I don’t feel enchanted when I look at it because it is embarrassing to see how lauded the slavery culture was at the time," he told Sky News host Chris Smith.

However, Mr Williamson pointed out “we can enjoy the drama, the performances and the story and at the same time our critical mind can say well it’s not like that any longer thanks goodness”.
