The statue of Christopher Columbus that was toppled and vandalized by protesters in Richmond, Virginia, was removed from a lake in Byrd Park on Wednesday morning, June 10. This video shows the damaged statue the morning after protesters targeted it. Local media reported that protesters used ropes to fell the statue, the same technique deployed on Saturday to remove a statue of Confederate general Williams Carter Wickham from elsewhere in the city. The dumping followed the toppling of several other statues worldwide, including one of slave trader Edward Colston, which was thrown into a harbor in Bristol, England, by protesters. A memorial to fallen Confederate soldiers in Jacksonville, Florida, was removed by city authorities on June 9, as was a statue of Congo colonizer Leopold II in Antwerp, Belgium.
