Finally schools ‘acknowledge’ boys require ‘different approaches’ to girls

Sky News contributor Cory Bernardi says finally schools are “acknowledging that boys learning experiences and boys understandings are different to girls” who need different approaches.

An article in the Sydney Morning Herald titled ‘Boys education: Teaching boys how to become good men,’ referred to the director of pastoral care at a Sydney boys private school who said the school encourages an “eulogy-type thinking” wherein the boys are told to think how they will be remembered.

Mr Stuart Ryan said the school challenges the boys’ understanding of what it is to be a “strong man as defined by character,” while also instilling values such as “integrity, resilience, and perseverance”.

Sky News host Gary Hardgrave said young boys “taking responsibility is a really critical thing,” and while the “PC brigade hate the terminology” boys have to man up.

“You’ve got to take risks but you’ve got to own your mistakes, and you’ve got to be humble enough to seek advice from those who’ve been there and done that”.
