Bookshelf decolonisation ‘threatens great authors like Shakespeare’

almost 4 years in news

Sky News host Rita Panahi says the “decolonise your bookshelf” movement parades as an attempt to “encourage people to read more widely," but could result in quality writing sacrificed for an author who fits the 'woke' gender and race mold.

However, she added, in schools the “decolonise your bookshelf” narrative had morphed into something more sinister where truly great literature is being eliminated from the school curriculum to make way for a more diverse list of authors.

Ms Panahi said “there’s been a push in some schools to get rid of Shakespeare and have texts that are more relatable to a diverse population”.

“I think that really robs diverse populations of the magic of Shakespeare and of reading something that is timeless”.

“Why deny yourself great literature because of the gender or colour of the skin of the author”.

Sky News host Mark Latham said, “the Lefties are very confused about all this” because white people under their “doctrine of cultural appropriation” should only have white authors on their bookshelves, because to get a black author they would need to “ask their permission”.
