Australians received the ‘ultimate middle finger’ on the weekend

Australians were hit with “the ultimate middle finger” on the weekend as states meekly conceded and allowed widespread Black Lives Matter protests to go ahead while strict COVID-19 bans remain in place, Sky News host Peter Gleeson says.

“Having a protest march in the middle of a pandemic is just wrong. Plain wrong,” he said.

Over the weekend thousands of people attended Black Lives Matter protests in Australian capital cities despite social distancing bans being largely still implemented and businesses heavily impacted by the government-imposed restrictions.

“We are still in the middle of the pandemic, only in the past few weeks has restrictions started to ease”.

Mr Gleeson said the “susceptibility of a second wave of COVID-19 cases is real and worrying” while medical officials have warned the protests on the weekend are a real health risk due to the deadly pandemic.

He said what was observed on the weekend show there are “rules for some (and) rules for others”.
