The Australian columnist Gerard Henderson says there is a growing demand mainly from Left wing activists to “silence not only conservatives but also mainstream democrats”.

It comes as the New York Times confirmed an article by Senator Tom Cotton, calling for President Donald Trump to enact the Insurrection Act in order to allow the military to deal with violent protests, did not meet "the paper's standards."

The New York Times’ Opinion Editor James Bennet subsequently resigned following widespread outrage from the “left wing activists”.

Mr Henderson told Sky News host Andrew Bolt, in times gone by “authoritarian regimes” imposed restrictions, they were the ones who “imposed the censorship they said what could or couldn’t be said” but now it is the other way around.
