Republican senator and former presidential candidate Mitt Romney was filmed bowing his head during a prayer after joining an evangelical group for an anti-racism protest march in Washington on June 7. The Washington Post reported that Romney was the first GOP senator to join a protest after George Floyd’s May 25 death, which has sparked rallies across the world. In this video, a mask-wearing Romney can be seen with his head bowed while a prayer for justice is recited over a megaphone at the rally near the White House. Romney later posted a photo of himself at the rally with the caption “Black Lives Matter.” An aide told the media that the senator’s decision to join the group was “spontaneous” after meeting them near the Capitol.
