Labor senator calls for indigenous national cabinet

about 4 years in theaustralian

Black Lives Matter Protests have plunged high levels of Indigenous incarceration and deaths in custody to the forefront of national discussion as officials push for government review.

Indigenous Labor Senator Malarndirri McCarthy has expressed her support for protests held across the country and has called upon the prime minister to “pull together” a national cabinet to deal with the issue facing the Indigenous population.

Calls have also been put forward for constitutional recognition of Indigenous Australians, although Indigenous Affairs Minister Ken Wyatt said it would take a “miracle” for there to be a successful referendum in this term of government.
