Health secretary urges British to avoid protests

Britain's Health Secretary Matt Hancock is warning people not to attend large anti-racism demonstrations because of the risk of COVID-19 to the community.

Euronews Reporter Trent Murray told Sky News while the infection rate is falling, the virus could once again spread just as the country was beginning to see progress.

“The UK is still very much under lockdown, the government is stressing people should stay at home if they can and avoid going out if possible, except for essential work or essential journeys,” Mr Murray said.

“That has not stopped people coming out in the 10s of thousands as part of these George Floyd protests.

“They are saying they want to stand in solidarity with their brothers and sisters in the US.

“More protests are expected over the weekend with people expected to gather outside the American embassy here, calling for an end to police brutality and racial injustice.”
