Tropical Storm Bertha made landfall near Charleston, South Carolina, on Wednesday, May 27, bringing rain and high winds to the northern shores of South Carolina and parts of southeastern North Carolina, the National Hurricane Center reported. The National Weather Service’s Charleston office warned of “heavy rain” and “gusty winds,” as well as the possibility for a “brief, isolated tornado” in Charleston and Berkeley counties. The South Carolina Emergency Management Division noted that Tropical Storm Bertha is the first to make landfall in the state since 2016’s Hurricane Matthew.
