Dr Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, made a surprise appearance at the online Johns Hopkins commencement for the class of 2020. Footage uploaded to the Johns Hopkins University Facebook page shows Dr Fauci addressing the graduates. Dr Fauci says in the recording: “We are currently confronting an unprecedented global pandemic, and I am profoundly aware that celebrating your graduation virtually is extremely disappointing at best. However, we must adapt to this extraordinary situation, as you have done so well, and unite in overcoming the challenges we face because of COVID-19.” The doctor is part of the White House’s Coronavirus Task Force, and has taken on a high-profile presence in American life due to the COVID-19 crisis.
