WA Premier clings to ‘flaky’ argument for intrastate lockdown Opposition Leader

Western Australia Opposition leader Liza Harvey says the Premier Mark McGowan has brashly pushed on with intrastate travel restrictions despite businesses across the state being brought to “their knees” after 62,000 jobs were lost over April. “We’ve been calling for a lift of the intrastate border restrictions for quite some time,” particularly after Deputy Chief Medical Officer for Australia Paul Kelly said “there is no medical reason” for these lockdowns. Many towns in Western Australia are seasonal and “if they don’t make the money now, they don’t make it at all”. With three cases of coronavirus total and no community spread, “the argument to keep us locked down within our own state is falling apart,” she said.
