Multiple Firefighters Injured in Explosion and Fire in Los Angeles

At least eleven firefighters were injured in an explosion that caused a large fire in the Little Tokyo district of Downtown Los Angeles, on Saturday, May 16, according to local news reports. The Los Angeles Fire Department said an explosion on the 300 block of E Boyd Street had caused a fire in several structures. A spokesperson for the department said firefighters were attempting to find the source of an initial structure fire when there was “a significant explosion, very high, very wide, rumbling the entire area," according to the Los Angeles Times. The department said more than 230 firefighters responded to the blaze. Local media reported that at least one fire truck had been burned and was covered in debris. The Los Angeles Times reported that eleven firefighters were taken to Los Angeles County+USC Medical Center with three critically injured.
