US left wing media ‘moving goalposts’ on purpose of lockdowns

Sky News Contributor John Jordan says "many in the media and certain Democrat governors" in the US seem to be "moving the goalposts" on the purpose of lockdowns contrary to shifting public sentiment. Mr Jordan said lockdowns in the US "were sold" as a way to "prevent the hospital system from being overwhelmed by the initial rush of cases" rather than "until a vaccine was available" but left-leaning media and Democratic governors insisted on "continuing lockdowns indefinitely". "They're running afoul of American public opinion," he said. With an election drawing near in September, positions on coping with COVID-19 have been split nationally, largely along partisan lines with Democrats calling for continued lockdowns and the Republicans moving to open the economy. "The people who are at risk fall in certain categories - older folk or people with pre-existing conditions are over 90 per cent of those who end up being hospitalised or dead," he said. "People are now asking the question; 'maybe we should be protecting those people, instead of chasing our tail'." Image: AP
